What You Need to Know About Veneers

You’ve probably seen a friend or family member with a gorgeous smile and wondered what they had done to get it. They might have been wearing braces for years or wearing Invisalign® clear aligners over the course of many months. But if you want an even faster way to get that amazing smile without any pain or discomfort you may be interested in getting veneers.

Veneers are thin coverings that fit over your teeth and make them look beautiful while also protecting them from damage caused by tooth decay and other problems. There are two types of veneers, porcelain (which we specialize in) and composite resin.

What’s the difference?

Porcelain veneers are thinner and more fragile than composite ones, but they tend to last longer. This type of veneer is usually what we recommend for people who want a perfect smile. Composite resin is less expensive and can match natural teeth colors better, but it does not usually last as long as porcelain.

What are the top three benefits of porcelain veneers?

  1. Smiles look more uniform: Veneers cover up spaces between teeth and gums.
  2. Teeth are strong and well cared for: Veneers protect teeth from decay, stains, and darkening.
  3. Cost-effective: Veneers last as long as 15 years with no problems or recurring costs like braces or Invisalign®.

Who should not get veneers?

People who have a significant bite problem should not get veneers, as they will affect the way you chew. People with long teeth should also avoid getting veneers for this same reason.
