During Your Appointment

For your first appointment, we will collect your medical and dental history before beginning your examination. We will take x-rays of your teeth and fully examine your teeth and gums. As part of your exam, we will perform a screening for oral cancer to complete our evaluation of your oral health. Once the physical exam is done, in most cases your teeth will be cleaned by our hygienist as part of your checkup.

Once your teeth have been examined and cleaned, you will meet with one of our caring dentists. Your dentist will go over any dental issues that were observed during the examination and offer treatment options. Feel free to ask any questions regarding your treatment plan, and voice any concerns. If you prefer sedation during dental treatments, this is a good time to talk to the dentist about our sedation dentistry options for future treatments.

Your first visit with us is just the beginning of our partnership in caring for your smile. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve your visits with us. Contact our office today to schedule your first visit with Preston Sherry Dental Associates.

At Preston Sherry Dental Associates, we want to help all our patients get the care they deserve within their budgets. When you need dental treatments not covered by insurance, we have flexible payment options to help you get the best care for your smile while staying within your budget.

Talk to one of our staff about payment options and learn more about how we can meet your financial needs.

Dental Insurance and Financing

We are happy to file insurance claims to your insurance provider. Dental insurance is playing a larger role in helping people obtain dental treatment. In an effort to maintain the high quality of care, we would like to share some facts about dental insurance with you.

  1. Dental insurance companies sometimes state that dental fees are higher than usual and customary. An insurance company surveys a geographic area, finds the average fee, and then takes 80% to 90% of that fee and considers it customary. Included in the survey are discount clinics that will bring down the average. The insurance company does not acknowledge differences in treatment from one provider to another. We believe the treatment you receive here exceeds the insurance company standards of usual and customary.
  2. Dental insurance is not meant to be a pay-all, it is meant to be an aid.
  3. Rather than saying “our benefits are low,” some insurance companies tell their insured that “fees are above the usual and customary fees.” The amount your plan pays is determined by how much is paid for the plan. The less paid for the insurance, the less you’ll receive.
  4. Insurance carriers do NOT cover many routine dental services. Please do not be hesitant in asking us any questions about our office policies.

If you have any questions regarding your insurance, we ask that you contact your employer and insurance company regarding the specifics and details of your plan.
